Karl Lagerfeld Reveals Plans for his First-Ever Residential Design Project in the United States
The Estates at Acqualina, a luxury condominium project under development in Sunny Isles Beach by The Trump Group (no relation to Donald), has revealed a rendering of iconic designer Karl Lagerfeld’s plan for the lobby of the project’s South Tower. Also known as 777 Via Acqualina, the South Tower is scheduled for completion in 2020.
A second North Tower, with a different lobby also designed by Lagerfeld, is in the planning stages as well.
This is Lagerfeld’s first interior design project in the United States.
“Karl Lagerfeld is a brilliant designer,” said Jules Trump, co-founder of The Trump Group, when I interviewed him for a recent article in Ocean Drive magazine. “We’re doing something that’s our most proud achievement at The Estates, and we wanted the world’s leading designer. The guy is legendary. He has come up with enormously creative solutions for our lobbies. Everything in the lobby will be his touch.”
Lagerfeld’s vision for both lobbies blends classical architecture and contemporary art. The South Tower will evoke a traditional Roman piazza and will feature photographs of Roman fountains and arches taken by Lagerfeld himself. These images will surround a fountain that will serve as a focal point in the center of the lobby. The color palette will include cerulean blue, white, silver and gray, with pale pink hues in a nod to the project’s location close to Miami. The floors will be hammered metal inlaid with one-of-a-kind rugs.
“Lobbies serve two purposes—they are the first impression of a building and a common living room for socializing,” said Lagerfeld in a written statement.
Construction for The Estates at Acqualina will begin in phases in late 2017. The first phase will feature the 152-unit South Tower and Villa Acqualina, a 45,000-square-foot amenity complex. The North Tower will be constructed in the second phase and will include 92 units.
Prices at The Estates at Acqualina start at $3.8 million.
